Mooring at Brentford Locks

Brentford Gauging Lock was once one of the busiest places on the Grand Union Canal / River Brent. Today, Brentford Lock is a great place for a walk and cycle.

Just a 10 minute jaunt around the towpath is the Thames Lock the final lock on the Grand Union Canal and the gateway to the River Thames.

Or if your prefer the 15 minute walk the other way, you'll find Syon House and Park.

Look out for our welcome station at Brentford - a place to stop for a chat with our friendly volunteers and pick up some information about the local area. The welcome station is is open when our volunteer lock keepers are on site which tends to be from April to October between 11 to 3pm but is subject to change. One of London's smallest museums, based in the Grade II Listed Toll House, is open every Friday by volunteers to is open when our volunteer lock keepers are on site. It offers a fascinating and intimate slice of waterways history for children and adults alike.

Wildlife spotting:

The basin here provides some tranquil waterspace in the town. You'll get a chance to see waterbirds, including herons, moorhens and flotillas of ducks so sit back and reflect.

By car - there is limited on-street parking. Nearest public pay & display car park is next to the church on Brentford High Street

By train - Brentford rail station is a reasonable 11 minutes walk

By bike - Capital Ring Route

By boat - if you're boating the Thames Ring then look out here for some visitor moorings, we have some permanent moorings herwith some boating facilities available.
