Summer lock opening times

All locks will be securely padlocked outside opening hours.  

Use of Bridge 9, Handcock's Swing Bridge is restricted during peak traffic times and will be open for user operation from 9:30am to 2pm and 6pm to 7:30am daily (no assistance required). 

Foulridge Tunnel is open all year round using a traffic light system with passage in either direction every 50 minutes. Only proceed through the tunnel when the green light is shown.

  • North West

    Wigan Lock Flight (86 to 65) will be open from 8am until 4pm, last entry 12pm. Please note, Lock 75 will be staff operated and signage will be present at Lock 65 and Lock 85 to call the team to arrange attendance between 10am-2pm daily.   

    Blackburn Lock Flight (57 to 52) will be open from 10am until 2pm, last entry at 1pm. 

    The following lock flights will be open from 10am until 4pm, with last entry at 2:30pm, daily: 

    • Johnsons Hillock Lock Flight (64 to 58) 
    • Barrowford Lock Flight (51 to 45) 
    • Greenberfield Lock Flight (44 to 42)
  • Yorkshire & North East
    • Bank Newton Locks (41 to 36): Open from 8am to 4pm daily. 
    • Gargrave (Holme Bridge Lock 30): Open from 8am to 4pm daily.
    • Newlay, Forge & Kirkstall Locks: Open from 8am to 4pm daily.
  • Bingley Five Rise

    Morning:  

    • Passage down the lock flight 8am to 10am (last entry 9am).
    • Passage up the lock flight 10am to 12pm (last entry 11am).                                                                      

    Afternoon: 

    • Passage down the lock flight 1pm to 3pm (last entry 2pm).
    • Passage up the lock flight 3pm to 5pm (lastentry at 4pm).
