Winter Works and Public Consultation
Each winter, when waterway usage is typically reduced, we undertake a programme of essential maintenance and repair works across our network. To ensure these works can be delivered safely and effectively, it is often necessary to fully close sections of the waterway and, on occasion, the associated towpath.
Prior to finalising the winter works programme, we carry out a period of public consultation with waterway users, stakeholders, and local communities. This process enables us to consider feedback, assess potential impacts, and identify opportunities to minimise disruption wherever possible.
Please be aware that, until the final programme is published in August, the works schedule remains provisional and is subject to change.
Any amendments made following publication are managed through a formal change control process. Where changes occur, the relevant web notices will be updated to reflect the latest information.

By clicking on the ‘Apply filter’ button you can then click on the individual stoppages for more information.
Please comment on as many of the notices as you like, as we want to hear what you think. The deadline for any comments in round 1 of the public consultation is the 29 May 2026.
Please send any comments to [email protected].
