Winter works programme 2025/26

Each winter, when fewer boats are cruising our waterways, we carry out essential repairs and maintenance. In many cases we need to close the waterway completely, and sometimes even the towpath.

Before we finalise our winter works program, we like to consult with the people who use our waterways to make sure these stoppages cause as little disruption as possible.

We will be publishing further details of our consultation at the beginning of May.

Please remember that, until the final programme is published in August, the plan is fluid and subject to a considerable amount of change. Any change made to the programme after its published is subject to a vigorous change control process.

We will update the web notices if our plans do differ.

How to search and comment on winter stoppages

Please note that the search will be populated from Monday 12 May 2025.

Have a look at the list or map below to find closures in a particular area. Alternatively, you can enter the first two letters of a particular waterway to see relevant stoppages. By clicking on the ‘Apply filter’ button you can then click on the individual stoppages for more information.

We have made a few changes to the winter works this year, one of those changes is how we receive your feedback. Please send any comments to [email protected].

We encourage you to comment on as many of the stoppages as you like, as we want to hear what you think.

The deadline for any comments in round one is the 30 May 2025.
