Mel Wood (Four Ashes AC) holding fish in netting on towpath

We are saddened to report the recent loss of one the most popular anglers on the canal match fishing circuit , Mel Wood, who was often referred by those in the know as the 'King of Norbury'. Anyone who knows their canal fishing, appreciates that if you can win at Norbury in those high-class open match fields, you must be able to fish a bit, as Ivan Marks would have said.  Mel could certainly fish a bit, winning a silver team medal for Four Ashes AC in the NFA Division Two National in 2008, and going on to win gold with the same team in the 2010 Angling Trust Division 2 national held on the Erewash Canal.
