Distance: 6 miles
The Lancaster Canal is the perfect place for a gentle paddle as, being a contour canal, it flows around the hills and is completely lock free.
Walk down to the canal from the Caton Road Car Park and launch your boat from the disability ramp. Keep the towpath on your right to head south to Galgate.
This route will take you through Lancaster, where you'll get a great view of St Peter's Spire. You'll also travel underneath some very special bridges, designed for the days of horse boating. The bridges sweep around as the towpath swaps to a different side of the canal so that the horse could continue pulling its boat without being unhitched.
The trail then travels through open countryside and a deep cutting before arriving in Galgate.
