Most people agree that the real value of fishing is in the health and wellbeing it gives you: the fresh air, the peaceful meditation of waiting for the fish to bite and the camaraderie of your fellow anglers. But did you know it has a vital economic value too?
My fishing hobby first started with me asking my stepdad if he would take me fishing with him. I’d always wanted to try the sport but didn’t think he would want to take me because I’m a girl and I wasn’t sure he would think it was OK for girls to fish. Ha-ha. As it turned out, he jumped at the chance to take me and quickly signed me up for a Let’s Fish!
At the 2021 national celebration of young people and fishing, several coaches picked out Cyrus Solgy as a youngster with natural ability and great future potential. This is Cyrus’ fishing journey, brought to you with a little help from Let’s Fish.
The surname Downes is a famous one in the angling world. Whilst not related to the England manager, could young James Downes one day become a household name in the fishing world? James' mum takes up the story of his fishing journey to date.
Due to the achievements of Bobby Moore’s boys, the English nation was in a state of euphoria. The question on the lips of the nation’s anglers in the lead up to the River Thurne event was whether England’s fishing team could make it a sporting double.
