The charity making life better by water

Wharf junction at Ellesmere

Ellesmere

The attractive market town of Ellesmere stands on the banks of the charming Llangollen Canal in Shropshire. Ellesmere enjoys an idyllic location next to The Mere, an enchanting lake which is part of 'Shropshire's Lakeland'.

For a day out with the kids, pack a picnic and walk along the Llangollen Canal to the Mere Visitor Centre – home to wildlife, rowing boats, manicured gardens, a children's play area, and relaxing woodland walks.

At the canal junction, explore the collection of old historic canal buildings and old forge – still in use today by the Canal & River Trust for making some of the harder-to-find heritage metalwork for our 2,000 miles of canals and rivers, locks, and bridges.
