Due to delays in construction works, third-party contractors need to extend the towpath closure until 05/07/25 to complete the works. The walkway pontoon will remain in the canal, allowing towpath users to continue their journey.

Description

Please be advised that as part of the construction of the new Highways Bridge, third party contractors need to temporarily close a short section of the towpath just east of Yorks Bridge. The closure is necessary for the safety of both the public and contractors involved.

However, a walkway pontoon will be installed in the canal to enable towpath users to continue their walk. While the pontoon will slightly restrict the width of the navigation, signage and lights will be in place to guide boaters through the area.

We advise all canal users and towpath walkers to adhere to the signage and directions provided on-site. Please exercise caution when navigating through the area.

Additional Closure Information:

Canal and Towpath Closure Dates: From 27th January 2025 to 2nd February 2025. This planned closure was previously announced and is part of the broader bridge installation schedule. More information can be found here:
