Upon the removal and inspection of the outer lock gate at Brunswick Lock, it was found that the steelwork holding the rubber seals was corroded beyond repair and replacements will have to be fabricated by specialists. In addition, locator pins for the gate are significantly worn and require refurbishment.

Fabrication of the new steelwork is underway and will take a number of weeks before the structure is complete for re-fitting to the gates. As a result, we envisage the gate will not be in service again until 14th May, although we will do everything we can to complete the repairs as soon as we can.

Work should re-commence on site in the next two to three weeks to prepare the gates for the new pieces.

Following further consideration of the methodology for carrying out repairs at Brunswick Dock Lock, and in order to save costs which will benefit other arising works, we will be extending this stoppage by three weeks.

The end date will not change but we will start work on site on 25th January instead of 15th February 2021.

Description

A stoppage is required at the river entrance to enable repairs to the lock including repair or replacement of drive motors, repair or replacement of life expired hydraulic equipment, replacement of drive chains and sprockets.
