Further to the notice below we are please to confirm that the underwater repair was successful, and the offside gate paddle is now connected. The lock is in full operation.
We ask our customers when using the lock and heading to Reading to open the offside bottom gate first when descending. We are lifting our manned operation allowing full access to the lock. Further work is required on the towpath bottom gate, once scheduled this notice will be updated.

Further to the notice below, please be advised that we are still manning Burghfield Lock from 11am until 1pm. The lock will be closed outside of these hours.
Works to rectify the gate paddle on the offside will take place on Thursday 26th June.
Specialist dive contractors will be facilitating the underwater repair.
The lock will remain closed all day whilst the works are carried out.
We are aware of the increased traffic to Reading water festival and will endeavour to have the works completed as soon as possible.
We anticipate that the lock will reopen at approximately 4pm on the same day (26th June)

Please be advised that the offside paddle on the bottom lock is not working properly.
The team have been working on site all day but have been unable to complete the repair.
The paddle has been locked off to prevent usage.
Please be aware that it will take slightly longer for the lock to empty.
We will plan further works to complete the repair as soon as possible.
