We are inviting people to have their say on proposals for new fishing platforms as part of our upgrade project.
Preserving the reservoir
We are planning to replace the existing fishing platforms, which are no longer fit for purpose, with 15 modern fishing platforms around the reservoir. The new platforms will be constructed with three different levels to cope with fluctuating water levels in the reservoir.
As well as enhancing the fishing experience at the reservoir for day-to-day use and competitive angling, the new platforms will also help to preserve the reservoir by minimising damage to its stonework and sides, protecting the reservoir and ensuring it can be enjoyed by everyone for years to come.

Sean McGinley, our regional director of Yorkshire & North East, explained: “We hope these new platforms will help even more people to experience fishing at the reservoir and the feel-good factor that research shows us spending time by water can bring.
“Before we submit a planning application for the fishing platforms, we are sharing our plans for the fishing platforms for the local community and users of the reservoir to feedback their thoughts and we encourage people to have their say on these proposals.”

Bringing in line with modern standards
We've announced plans in December 2020 to upgrade the reservoir to bring it in line with modern standards, with works beginning in 2022. The programme of works, including construction of the new fishing platforms, is expected to be completed by early 2024.
The reservoir, situated between Sheffield and Worksop near to the village of Harthill, was constructed more than 200 years ago to supply water to the Chesterfield Canal, located approximately two miles to the north.
Once a key route for commercial boat traffic, the beautiful Chesterfield Canal has become an important local leisure destination. Harthill Reservoir still acts as an important water feed to the canal and is now also a popular fishery, local walking route and home to groups such as Rotherham Sailing Club and Yorkshire Outdoor Swimmers.
