While we currently don’t run any of our own historic boats across the aqueduct, you will find several local companies that do offer boat trips. And what at trip it is…wow!
As well as passenger boat trips, you can charter boats from Jones and they even have a restaurant boat. The 45 minute trips include two crossings of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Trips run daily from Easter to October at 12 noon, 1.00pm, 2.00pm and 3.00pm, but we suggest you check out their website for times and latest prices.
Their Horse Drawn Boat trips run daily from March to November 2017.
They also have a fully weatherproof and centrally heated motor boat, Thomas Telford. Their two hour motorised boat trip takes you along a five-mile stretch of the Llangollen Canal World Heritage site, which runs along the picturesque Dee Valley including across our Pontcysyllte Aqueduct. Trips leave at 12.15pm and 1.45pm. Please check their website for availability or book online before travelling.
AngloWelsh, based here at Trevor Basin, provide a range of hire boats so, if you’re feeling brave enough you can experience the exhilaration of captaining a boat across Ponty and along this beautiful Llangollen stretch at your own pace. For more details, visit their website.
But which ever boat trip you take, remember to visit us here at the Trevor Basin Visitor Centre first to find out the story of Pontcysyllte and its place in the Dee valley.
