Tees Lock: operating procedure

Operating hours & booking system 

  • Core operating hours: Summer (British Summer Time): 7am - 9pm; Winter: 8am - 6pm; available seven days a week 

Booking requirements

  • Passage must be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Short-notice bookings may be accommodated if capacity allows. To book, call the Tees Barrage on 01642 633273 (Available 8am - 4:30pm). 

Flexibility & special requests 

  • Late arrivals: If you arrive slightly late, passage will still be permitted, no vessel will be left stranded on tidal waters. 
  • No booking on arrival? If a team is on-site, we will make every effort to lock you through. 
  • Outside core hours: Requests will be considered, and with sufficient notice, we will do our best to accommodate them. 

River conditions & safety 

Passage is subject to river conditions, including: 

  • sufficient water over the cill 
  • downstream flow of less than 120 cumecs
