Towing vessels from Sharpness Port

Do you need to tow a vessel or craft from Sharpness Port along the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal or River Severn? Here are the applications forms you will need.

Over the last few years there have been various incidents near Sharpness where towed vessels have caused damage, not only to canal structures, such as bridges, but to other boats and craft that use our waterways.

Because of this we have introduced the following documents to check the standard of towing and make sure all vessels being towed are safe, insured and manned by a competent crew.

Towage requirements

Vessels towed through Sharpness Docks and along both the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal and River Severn Navigation need to have the tow approved.

To assess the method of tow, we've prepared a towage requirements document and application form, which you will need to complete in advance.

Emergency towage requirements

We appreciate that sometimes it's necessary to tow a vessel in an emergency. Therefore, we've also prepared an emergency towage requirements and application form.

This pre-approved application will enable operators to be allowed to carry out emergency tow activities on our waterways.
