Social media guidelines

We encourage everyone participating in conversations with or about the Canal & River Trust to comment, share their experiences with each other and build a community.

We want to ensure that all of our social media sites are welcoming, positive, safe and suitable for all ages. The Canal & River Trust reserves the ultimate right to edit or delete any comments or content deemed inappropriate.

The following types of comments or content will be hidden or deleted by administrators:

  • Offensive, abusive, aggressive, unlawful or containing swearing
  • Off-topic and redundant comments (this includes promotion of events, groups, pages, websites, organisations and programs not related to or affiliated with the Canal & River Trust)
  • Repetitive comments that are unrelated to the original post and aim to sow discord and negativity by being inflammatory or provocative (trolling)
  • Comments that are hateful, racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic or otherwise discriminatory
  • Personal attacks or defamatory comments (i.e. making negative personal comments about a fellow commenter, employee or volunteer of the Canal & River Trust) instead of just expressing a difference of opinion. This includes attacks or defamatory comments aimed at our social media team.
  • Anything that infringes copyright laws or the privacy rights of others

Individuals who violate these guidelines may be blocked without warning.

All links to other websites found linked from our social media sites are provided as a service to readers, but such linking does not constitute endorsement of those sites by the Canal & River Trust, and as such we are not responsible for the content of external websites.
