Description

Work to improve the Leeds & Liverpool Canal

The towpath between Bridge 191A in Silsden and Bridge 187 in Kildwick will start on Monday 3 March 2025 and continue until the end of June.

The towpath will remain open, but the path may be restricted and during the work users may have to wait and be escorted through the working area.

The canal will remain open. The Contractor will be using floating plant to access the working area, and boats may have to wait whilst craft manoeuvre. No mooring within the working area.

The towpath between Bridge 191A Silsden Road Bridge and Bridge 191 Cowling Swing Bridge will be closed to ensure the safety of the public. The towpath will be opened at weekends.

The canal will remain open. The Contractor will be using floating plant to access the working area, and boats may have to wait whilst craft manoeuvre. No mooring within the working area.

Please also note from 10 March 2025 until 13 June 2025 the towpath between Bridge 191A Silsden Road Bridge and Bridge 191 Cowling Swing Bridge will be closed to ensure the safety of the public.


The towpath will be opened at weekends. An alternative route is available between Bridge 191A and Bridge 191 via Elliott Street, Woodside Road, and the public footpath through Low Woodside Farm. As the alternative route is unsuitable for cycles, cyclists should follow Skipton Road between Silsden and Kildwick.
