Updates

14/01/2025 12:42

The works at this location have been disrupted and delayed by flooding and adverse weather, alongside this, when we dewatered the lock additional works were identified requiring an extension to the programme.

The new end date for this closure will be the 7 February 2025.

Installing the temporary dams at this location to dewater the lock was extremely challenging and required multiple adjustments to the design which unfortunately cost us a 2.5 week delay at the beginning of these planned works. The works are required to reduce leakage through the lock which has been making navigation through the river lock difficult for sometime. We have made good progress on many of the items since we got the lock drained – but have found more potential sources of leaks that we want to eliminate before returning the lock to service.

After speaking with key stakeholders, we have made the decision to leave the site set up (given the significant cost and challenge in getting the dams secure in the first place) and complete the works thoroughly in the new year to prevent us having to close the navigation again in the near future.

The closure will now run through to 24 January 2025, which means that regrettably the navigation and towpath will remain closed over Christmas.

Please note as part of this planned winter works, divers will be in the navigation from the 4 November 2024 through to the 8 November 2024.

The navigational closure is unchanged, running from the 4 November 2024 through to the 20 December 2024.

Description

A navigation and towpath closure are required to enable repairs to be completed.

Dewatering is required to identify the cause of the leak and to repair the downstream stop plank grooves as well as other repairs throughout the lock.

Due to the nature of the repairs, temporary dams need to be constructed upstream and downstream of the lock.

The footbridge will be closed for the duration of the works to ensure safety of pedestrians.
