We are pleased to advise a successful repaired has been made to the holes in the canal bed,and navigation has now resumed between Bridge 26 and 27 at Bollington on the Macclesfield Canal.
Our teams will continue to monitor the location and over the winter months we will plan further investigation and repair works.
Thank you to all our boating customers for their patience and understanding.

We found two holes within the canal bed during the dewatering and inspection yesterday. With our workboats in position, the team started repairing one hole yesterday. This involved excavating around it to remove silt and debris, then packing the hole with clay. The second hole is just out of reach of our workboat's digger, so the team will need to refloat the boat, reposition, and dewater the area again. This work is progressing today.
Our plan for tomorrow is to test and refill the canal, and for our specialist contractors to remove the dams. Once completed, we aim to have the canal back open by Saturday, 29 June. Should there be any further changes to this repair plan, we will provide an update later today. Alternatively, we will provide an update tomorrow once the canal is back open.

Our specialist dam contractors have been onsite today to begin installing the dams around the area affected by the canal leak. They will return tomorrow to complete the installation and testing. Once the dams are in place, our teams can drain the affected area, allowing our engineers to assess the leak and determine the necessary repairs. We plan to start the repair process immediately. On Friday 28 June, we will provide an update with a proposed reopening schedule. Our teams are doing everything possible to re-open the canal as soon as possible.

Pleased be advised navigation remains closed between Bridges 26 and 27 on Macclesfield Canal.
We are now in the process of arranging dams to be installed onsite at the earliest availability on Wednesday 26 June, which will enable our engineers to drain the affected section of the canal, to investigate the continued cause of the leak and organise a method of repair.
We will provide a further update on Thursday 27 June. If you have any immediate questions the regional team can be contacted by selecting North West on 03030 404040.
