Updates

30/01/2024 15:25

We're pleased to advise works to the by-wash have been completed and navigation is open again ahead of schedule.

We've now exposed the culvert and have a repair plan in place. The team will be installing a liner, which will hopefully be available on 24th January. Assuming that it will take a week to install and a week to demobilise, we're therefore aiming to have navigation open again by Friday 9th February. We'll update this notice as soon as we receive any further updates.

09/01/2024 14:22

The team will be excavating the site tomorrow to identify the extent of the culvert collapse. Once this has been identified, we should be able to get a programme for repairs in place.

The next update will be provided Thursday 11th January.

05/01/2024 16:04

The team have continued to monitor the sinkhole over the past few days. Fortunately, there's been no further collapse since we diverted flows though the lock. The sinkhole remains stable and it has not deteriorated overnight. A team were on site today to clear debris and deposit from within the culvert, to enable inspection and repairs.

We'll continue to monitor the situation over the weekend. While it's still too early to put a date on when we can re-open navigation, we'll be in a position to provide further update at the beginning of next week.

Description

A sinkhole has appeared in a culvert near to Deptmore Lock, and as a result we've had to close the lock to allow us to manage a controlled volume of water through. This should help us to avert further damage and potential impact to a nearby property.

We will undertake a priority assessment once it is light, and should be able to advise further once the extent of the collapse is known. Culvert collapses are often complex to assess and fix, so it's too early to put a date on when we will be able to reopen navigation. We should however be able to provide a further update in the next few days, and certainly by Friday 5th January.

Thank you for bearing with us in the meantime.
