The towpath in this area remains closed due to an ongoing legal dispute given that the works will involve third party land. Our legal team is currently instructed.

The towpath needs to remain closed here as the towpath remains unsafe. Third party land has slipped onto our own land, and the bank has been pushed out, rendering the towpath dangerous.

We're continuing to work with the responsible landowners to ensure the bank is repaired. Until this work is agreed and carried out, the towpath remains closed.

The towpath will need to remain closed here while we continue to liaise with the landowners who have to make the necessary repairs to the bank. If you see any damage to the safety barriers, please let us know on 0303 040 4040.

Please note that this section of the towpath remains closed for public safety, as there is a danger to anyone using the towpath here. We're liaising with the landowners, and coming up with a plan for repairs.

Engineers have visited the site and found water run-off has caused the ground to slip again. The towpath will therefore need to remain closed until further notice.

There is a simple diversion route in place, please follow local signage.

Description

We've had to temporarily close the towpath between Bishopton Lane Bridge and Timothy Road Bridge on the South Stratford Canal. A recent landslip has made this section of towpath unsafe, and we have taken the decision to close it immediately.

A further update, including a possible re-opening date, will be provided on or before Wednesday 13th December.
