Updates

27/01/2023 17:56

We would like to update our customers regarding the ongoing works at Bridge 37, Hazelhurst. There have been several challenges which have resulted in the requirement to extend this stoppage by 2 weeks. Taking the end date to 06/04/2023. A rebuild of the waterway wall on the southern side of the canal is required. The extent of this only became visible as construction reached that point and we were able to fully assess it.

A review of the work methodology was required as there is now a need for a dam to enable the navigation to be dewatered so the wall can be repaired in dry conditions. We have worked closely with our contractor to enable the navigation to be open ahead of Easter.

We will be using pontoons once the navigation is open to lay brickwork. This will mean that a navigation restriction will be put in place and boaters will be asked to wait for a period of up to 2 hours whilst construction activities are moved aside to enable passage. The restriction will run until 19/05/2023 and a separate notice will be in place for this.

There's no current expectation that the delays will affect the final completion of the project, although the towpath closure is expected to extend to 13th July, again this will be advised via an individual notice.

We thank you for your understanding and apologise for the inconvenience caused.
