We are pleased to advise our methods in containing the pollution have been successful between Bridge 28, Thornsett Road Bridge and Bridge 29, Bank End Bridge on the Peak Forest Canal. We have been able to remove a large majority of the diesel downstream and the canal is looking clear once more. Our teams have been back onsite this morning clearing the last of the collected diesel and navigation can now resume following the removal of the booms in place at Bridge 28 and Bridge 29.

Our teams have been able to identify a suspect boat, which appears to have a very slow diesel leak.
Immediate action has already been taken by pumping out the diesel tank on this boat. However, we believe there may still be some diesel in the hull of the boat which may continue leaking.
Therefore, we are installing a large boom around the boat to contain any diesel which may slowly leak out.
In the meantime, we will keep the pumps on and keep the booms in place. Our teams will continue to monitor the situation daily removing any emulsified diesel that has built up along the canal and where we have installed the booms.
We will provide a further update on Wednesday 3rd March.

Our local teams have been working on site to remove the emulsified oil that has built up along the canal and where we have installed the boom at Bridge 29.
While our teams have been on site today, we have also installed a further boom at Bridge 28, Thornsett Road Bridge. We are continuing to run our pumps that we have installed at Whaley Bridge, this is to provide a small flow of water so that the booms we have in place hold the pollutants and aid our teams with containing the pollutants from spreading further.
A further update will be provided Wednesday 24 February.
