The winter stoppage between Bridges 26-27, Bollington, for repairs to the Palmerston Street Embankment, has been brought forward as a result of current issues with leakage. Please see our Emergency Notice for further details.
Following the recent leakage, our contractors will now be starting to work in the area from 16th October.
The repairs will include a canal bed relining scheme on a 80m section of the canal between Bridges 26 (Sugar Lane Bridge) and 27 (Kerridge Road Bridge), together with 66m of wash wall re-build near Clarence Mill.
The navigation will be dewatered with works expected to be completed and the navigation re-opened by 13th March 2020.
In addition to the navigation closure, several towpath closures / restrictions will be in place throughout the works. However, we envisage being able to keep pedestrian access to the mill via Bridge 26A (Clarence Mill Footbridge) open throughout.
Extensive leak repairs are required on the embankment.
The length of the canal will be de-watered to enable construction of an 80m long reinforced concrete liner in the bed of the canal. Work will also include the re-building of a 66m section of washwall.
