Update 4 July 2025 4:13 pm
Our Engineering team continue to plan these essential repairs and obtain the parts needed to do this. We expect that it will be another 2-4 weeks before repairs are complete and navigation can resume. Further update will be given on or before 18 July 2025.
Update 27 June 2025 3:30 pm
The team working on the repair of this lock have confirmed that new cables, those which lower and lift the gates, are needed for the operating mechanism and they are currently procuring these. Once these cables have been swaged by the supplier, to suit the Salterhebble mechanism, they can be delivered to site.
To install the new cables a scaffold is needed for access, and this is currently being designed. The job is more complicated than initially thought and so we anticipate it will take 4 weeks rather than the hoped for 2 weeks.
We will update this notice on the 11th July,
Update 20 June 2025 2:12 pm
Our engineers have inspected and assessed the condition of the lock mechanism and have concluded that works are needed to ensure it can be safely operated. The planning and mobilisation for these works is underway and we anticipate that these works will take between 2 and 4 weeks to complete; our team will do all they can to complete the works in 2 weeks.
We will provide a progress update in this notice on 27th June.
