AMENDMENT TO PROGRAMME
Canal & River Trust has been awarded Department for Transport funding to undertake towpath upgrades on the Leeds & Liverpool Canal. The City Connect scheme is being delivered in partnership with West Yorkshire Metro and includes towpath improvements between Kirkstall and Shipley.
The project is split into two phases of delivery, commencing with surfacing improvements to approx. 9km of towpath. In addition, we will be completing over 600m of wash wall repairs in various locations, access improvements and installing new signage.
This scheme will be delivered using several construction teams at once. As such, the majority of the towpaths through the area will be affected by closures whilst the works are underway.
Diversions will be put in place for all the affected routes. Please see below the programme of works:
- Bridge 222 (Kirkstall Brewery Bridge) to Locks 8, 9 and 10 – 24 November 2014 to 9 January 2015
- Locks 8, 9 and 10 to Newlay Locks – 24 November 2014 to 20 January 2015
- Newlay Locks to Bridge 221 (Newlay Stone Bridge) – 21 November 2014 to 16 January 2015
- Bridge 221 (Newlay Stone Bridge) to Bridge 218 (Moss Swing bridge) – 17 December 2014 to 6 March 2015
- Bridge 219 (Ross Mill Swing Bridge) to Bridge 218 (Moss Swing bridge) – 29 January 2015 to 27 March 2015
- Bridge 218 (Moss Swing Bridge to Bridge 217 (Rodley Swing Bridge) – 9 March 2015 to 15 April 2015
- Bridge 216a (Horseforth Road Bridge) to Bridge (216 Owl Swing Bridge) – 27 March 2015 to 20 April 2015
- Bridge 216 (Owl Swing Bridge) to Bridge 215 (Calverley Lodge Swing Bridge) – 15 April 2015 to 8 May 2015

Please be advised that teams will be on site from Bridge 222 (Kirkstall Brewery Bridge) to Locks 8, 9 and 10 from 29 October 2014 to 6 November 2014 undertaking survey works.
