The charity making life better by water

When did you last test your smoke alarm?

The Boat Safety Scheme is echoing the National Fire Kills campaign and asking all boaters to test their smoke alarms when they turn their clocks back this weekend.

Fire is a deadly threat on a boat, where due to the nature of cabin spaces, toxic fumes and smoke spreads rapidly, closely followed by flames. A working smoke alarm could make the difference between survival and not escaping in time.

Common causes of smoke alarms not working are flat batteries or the batteries removed altogether. Testing is easy, just a push of a button, it takes a couple of seconds and it's vitally important.

Whatever your plans this weekend, please make time to #TickTockTest
