Waterway volunteering experts needed for new Canal & River Trust Advisory Group

The Canal & River Trust wants to encourage more people from a range of backgrounds and communities to get involved with their local waterway. To help them in their mission, the Trust is establishing a new Volunteering Advisory Group.

The Volunteering Advisory Group will be chaired by Dr Justin Davis Smith CBE, Chief Executive of Volunteering England. Justin explains: “We are currently looking for people who have extensive experience in establishing and leading volunteering groups in a waterways setting to get involved with the new Advisory Group. This is a very exciting opportunity to work at a strategic level to help the Canal & River Trust engage with waterside communities and to help build a sustainable model for community involvement.

“The new Group will bring together experts from both the volunteering and waterways sectors to help develop the volunteering strategy and best practice in the process of managing volunteers as well as giving the Trust's management an insight into the implications of new policies or particular issues that are relevant to volunteers.”

The roles are voluntary with expenses paid and the Group will meet twice a year.

For an informal discussion about the roles call Caroline Killeavy at the Canal & River Trust on 07710 175504.

Closing date for applications: 27 July 2012.
