The group repaired potholes and built an improved surface by Carthagena Lock, a short walk from Broxbourne train station.
We holding a series of regular Towpath Taskforce sessions at this location with the ambition of improving up to one mile of the towpath. The Taskforce is a free volunteering day, open to all and will run from 10am-3pm. Dates are:

- Saturday, 16 June
- Wednesday, 4 July
- Saturday, 21 July
- Wednesday, 1 August
- Saturday, 18 August
Sandile Mthiyane, Canal & River Trust volunteer leader, says: "A big thank you goes to our volunteers, they've improved the towpath no end for all the thousands of runners, walkers, boaters and cyclists who use it.
"We're keen to do even more work to improve the river at this site, so would encourage anyone interested to come and join us."
John Fetcho, one of the volunteers, said: "I've been mooring my boat in Roydon for the last five years. I don't think most people know what a valuable, almost unknown resource the river is, it's just a great space that people should come and check out. I thought volunteering was a good way of giving back and I'd recommend it to anyone."
No experience is required to join the Towpath Taskforce, you just need to be willing to get stuck in. Wear old clothes appropriate for the weather conditions and sturdy footwear or wellies.
