The scheme, which is run by Tesco and environmental charity Groundwork, uses the proceeds generated from the sale of carrier bags in stores, to create or improve green spaces in communities and local projects.

If successful the Trust, will work with Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, who manage Tring Reservoirs Nature Reserve on behalf of the Trust, to develop a series of self-guided trails around the reservoirs. As one of the best birdwatching spots in southern England, the trails will allow visitors to explore this wonderful nature reserve and discover the wildlife and bird life that visits the area.

The project will also include installing family friendly information boards and interpretation signs which tell the history of the reservoir and its links to the nearby Tringford Pumping Station. New cycle parking bays will also be installed to encourage visitors to get active and leave the car at home.

Sarah Brown, from the Trust, said: "The reservoirs at Tring are a wonderful spot to enjoy an afternoon stroll in the fresh air and is great and seeing over wintering and rare birds as they travel through on their way to warmer climates.

"Winning this Tesco vote will make such a difference to the site and we hope local people, who love the waterways, vote for this project."

Lesley Davies, Chief Executive of Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust, said: "We're thrilled that this project has been chosen to go forward for the public vote. Tring Reservoirs Nature Reserve is a fantastic place to see a range of wildlife throughout the year and is one of the best birdwatching spots in southern England.

"We really hope the local community will get behind this project and vote in-store so that, together with The Canal & River Trust, we can enable many more people to get out and enjoy the sites and all that they have to offer.”

Voting begins instore from 31 October until 13 November. Customers choose which project they would like to get the top award using a token given to them at the check-out in store. The results are due to be announced at the end of November.
