The charity making life better by water

Standedge Tunnel winds down for winter

After a busy year entertaining visitors, Standedge Tunnel and Visitor Centre is winding down for the winter.

Britain's longest, highest and deepest canal tunnel, which is managed by the waterways and wellbeing charity Canal & River Trust, will host its last trip boat tour of the year on Sunday, November 10th. It will re-open in March next year.

Attraction manager Andy Widdowson said: "We have welcomed more people into our Watersedge Café, the visitor centre and onto our tunnel boat trips than in many previous years.

"During the winter, we will be refurbishing and improving certain areas of the site, as well as planning for a wide range of events and activities.

"Weddings at Standedge Tunnel Warehouse have reached record numbers this year, with brides and grooms from across the North enjoying our historic venue. Many have also used the Canal & River Trust's boats to transport their guests to the venue – a great way to arrive in style!"

Standedge will continue to operate for any pre-booked group events, including school trips, and may be able to accommodate other pre-booked group trips.
