Opportunity for budding anglers to get hooked on fishing

Budding anglers are being given the opportunity to try their hand at fishing on the Shropshire Union Canal in Chester this month.

Two weekend taster sessions are being held on 12 and 26 September. The events are being held at Blacon Avenue Bridge and are aimed at getting young people hooked on angling, although anyone can take part. All equipment, including rods and bait, is provided and experts from “Get Hooked on Fishing!” will be on hand to offer advice.

“Get Hooked on Fishing!” is an angling charity which uses the sport as a means of boosting confidence in young people.

Ani Sutton, from the Canal & River Trust said: “Everyone is invited to come down and try their hand at fishing during our taster sessions. All the equipment is provided, all you need to do is turn up with a packed lunch!

“The sessions are being held in response to the enthusiasm of the local community to make the most of the canal in their area. While everyone is welcome, they are particularly aimed at young people in the area to provide positive opportunities.”

Both sessions run from 10.30am – 4.30pm and budding anglers can either just turn up on the day or email [email protected] or [email protected]
