The charity making life better by water

New trustee needed

We're recruiting a new Trustee to join our unpaid board of directors. The successful candidate will help take collective decisions on policy and overarching strategy and provide oversight of our executive team.

Tony Hales, chair of our trustees, comments: “As it approaches its second birthday, the Canal & River Trust faces exciting opportunities for the future; as a new charity responsible for over 2,000 miles of inland waterways, we are growing volunteering and community involvement, developing new partnerships, attracting new investment and funding, and giving those who use and love our waterways a greater say in the running of our organisation.

“To help us to develop and realise our goals, we're seeking a new Trustee to join the Board who, in particular, has commercial knowledge and expertise to replace John Bridgeman who comes to the end of his term with us this September. Having overseen the transfer of the waterways from public corporation to charitable trust, I'd very much like to thank John for his significant contribution.

“The successful candidate will have operated at board or senior management level within large customer service or infrastructure organisations, along with strong communication and stakeholder management skills, and an empathy with the natural and built heritage of the inland waterways.”

The ten Trustees of the Canal & River Trust are legally responsible for ensuring that the Trust works towards its Charitable Objectives. The position requires a time commitment of two to three days per month.

The vacancy has been advertised in the national press. For further details, please contact Saxton Bampfylde Ltd at www.saxbam.com/jobs, using reference code QAWTC. Alternatively please telephone +44 (0)20 7227 0890 (during office hours), or email to [email protected].

The deadline for applications is noon on Monday 30 June 2014. Further details are available here.
