The charity making life better by water

Improvements planned at Goytre Wharf

From the beginning of April 2016 ABC Leisure is taking on the full management of the facilities and services at Goytre Wharf on the Monmouthshire & Brecon Canal.

Previously the management of the site has been split between ABC Leisure, BWML and the Canal & River Trust. BWML has written to boaters with moorings in the marina to let them know about the changes.

ABC Leisure, which has been operating the hire base Redline Boats, the café and the holiday cottage at Goytre Wharf, will take over responsibility for the moorings and day-to-day maintenance and development of the whole site.

Ed Helps, managing director of ABC Leisure, said: “We are very pleased to be working with the Trust in the development of Goytre Wharf as a tourist attraction with its unique heritage, along with offering a number of boating options to experience the Mon & Brec canal.”

Gareth Stephens, national boating business manager at the Trust, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for Goytre Wharf. It's an important hub and is a destination for locals, holidaymakers and cruising boats who head to the area for great walks along the towpath or in the forests and to make the most of the facilities. I'm delighted that we'll be working in partnership with ABC Leisure, who I'm confident will manage the site and develop the activities on offer to help even more people enjoy this lovely location.”
