Free family sports day in Aylesbury
People living in Aylesbury will have chance to enjoy free waterside sporting activities, as part of a fun day taking place on Sunday 31 May.
The event, taking place at the Oakfield Road Park and along the Aylesbury Arm of the Grand Union Canal, will give families the opportunity to give canoeing and angling a try, improve their cycling skills and join a fun run.
The day is being organised by the Canal & River Trust, the charity that cares for the 2,000 miles of canals and rivers in England & Wales, in partnership with Sport England and Aylesbury Vale District Council, to encourage more people to get involved with sport whilst discovering their local waterway.
Joe Sammon, from the Canal & River Trust, said: “This is a real family event aimed at getting people to try activities they may not have thought of before. Being out alongside the canal, enjoying some exercise is a great way to spend some quality time with family and friends and, best of all, it’s all right on your doorstep.”
The event is free and activities begin at 10am. Anyone attending is encouraged to wear waterproofs and suitable footwear and all children must be accompanied by an adult. Age restrictions apply to some of the activities.
