Foxton Locks voted 'best day out' at tourism awards

Foxton Locks in Leicestershire has been voted ‘Best Day Out’ – Free Entry category’ at the recent Leicestershire Promotions Tourism and Hospitality Awards.

Foxton Festival 2017

Owned and maintained by us, Foxton Locks, located on the Grand Union Canal, is home to the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK and is visited by 325,000 people each year and over 4000 boats.

The 200-year-old site is carefully looked after by our dedicated team of staff and volunteers who work hard keeping the canal and locks in tip top condition so it's lovely to enjoy whatever the weather.

There is lots to do at Foxton Locks throughout the year and a free family day out would not be complete without spending some time watching the colourful boats as they navigate through the locks. There's also the chance to take a step back in time with a visit to the Boiler House Museum and, after a gentle stroll alongside the locks, enjoying a warming cup of tea and a slice a cake from the café or onside pub's. During the summer Foxton is also a great place for wildlife watching, pond dipping and it's also a lovely spot for a peaceful picnic.

Alex Goode, Foxton Locks site manager, said: "We are thrilled to have been voted Best Day Out at the recent tourism & hospitality award as it's a real cherry on the top of a great year at Foxton Locks. The award is also great recognition of the really important role our volunteers play in welcoming visitors to Foxton Locks and help keep the locks, side ponds and green areas look great.

"There is always something to see or do at the locks and, this time of year when the weather is a bit chilly and crisp, a bracing walk alongside the locks is great way to blow away the cobwebs and enjoy some time away from the hustle and bustle."
