Festive floating market comes to Bradford Upon Avon

This historic town of Bradford upon Avon is set to host its first Christmas Floating Market along the 87 mile Kennet & Avon Canal.

Christmas event

Taking place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 December between 11am – 7pm, trade boats will turn the town's picturesque wharf into a bustling waterway Christmas market, selling everything from jewellery to furniture, mulled wine and roasted chestnuts.

Santa is also due to make a visit on his floating grotto and will be handing out pirate themed goody bags to children on the nice list.

Cared for by the Trust, the Kennet & Avon Canal is now a haven for people and wildlife, with over 15 million visits made to its towpaths by boaters, walkers, cyclists and anglers. Opened in 1810, the canal was once a busy trade route, linking the city of London with the Bristol Channel.

Mark Evans, waterway manager for the Trust, said: "We held our first ever floating market on the Kennet & Avon Canal back in the summer and it was a huge success so we're delighted to welcome the market back to the canal this festive season.

"This Christmas market will be a really fun family afternoon and will give local people the opportunity to purchase some homemade or unique Christmas presents that you can't get anywhere else."
