The charity making life better by water

Fancy a duck race in the Midlands?

Hundreds of tiny yellow plastic ducks will be the centrepiece of a canal community fun day in Smethwick Locks on Saturday, April 11.

The duck race is part of a community day organised by the Canal & River Trust, Ikon Gallery and The Birmingham Canal Navigations Society. There will be prizes for the first three ducks over the line and another for the best decorated duck.

Ducks can be sponsored on the day or in advance for £1 – available online at www.ikon-gallery.org, by visiting the Ikon shop or our offices at Peels Wharf in Tamworth and Cambrian Wharf in Birmingham.

Improving the canal

Proceeds from the race will be shared by the three organisations and will go towards improving facilities in the canal area.

Ivor Caplan, from the Birmingham Canal Navigations Society, explained: “As well as being a great fun day for everyone, the event will give visitors a chance to experience the excitement of their local canals.

“The proceeds from the race will enable our volunteers to make these canals even better for everyone to enjoy.”

The fun day takes place at Smethwick Locks on the canal between Brasshouse Lane and Bridge Street from 10am to 2pm.
