Britain’s beautiful 3,000-mile canal and river network is in better shape than ever so there’s never been a better time to try a canal boat holiday.

The 'On The Water Weekend', held over 27-28 April, aims to engage with people of all ages and backgrounds wanting to get out on the water. The weekend will be filled with opportunities to try canal boating, canoeing or sailing. You'll be able to find out about training, boating holidays and what's available locally.

Sarah Dhanda, BMF Senior Federation director, says: “Over three million UK adults participate in on-water activities and this event has been launched to encourage more to join them and get on the water.”

Holiday discounts

Drifters' taster sessions will include boat tours, holiday discounts and free trips on skippered boats. Full details of what each site is offering can be found at www.drifters.co.uk. No booking is required.

Tim Parker, chairman of Drifters Canal Boat Holidays, adds: “Britain's beautiful 3,000-mile canal and river network is in better shape than ever so there's never been a better time to try a canal boat holiday.

“Around a fifth of hire boaters are new to the market each year, showing that it's easy to learn how to steer a boat and navigate the canals. We hope our free taster sessions over the ‘On the Water Weekend' will introduce many more people to the joys of a holiday afloat on the canals.”
