Dr Lidington MP visits the important community work to resurface and improve sections of the towpath.

MP Visits Aylesbury Arm

The Rt Hon Dr David Lidington CBE is Minister for the Cabinet Office, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and MP for Aylesbury.

The refurbished towpath, which is being funded by Buckinghamshire County Council, will enable visitors to the waterways to enjoy a green, traffic-free walking route to and from work and school, enjoying the wildlife and tranquillity and without having to dodge any puddles after it's been raining.

Tav Kazmi comments: "Our waterways bring people and communities together whilst enjoying the great outdoors. The Grand Union Canal in Aylesbury is nestled right in the heart of the town and offers a great escape from the bustle. After just a few minutes' walk along the towpath you'll be surrounded by countryside, mingling with nature, and getting up close to the local wildlife."

For the past few years local residents have been helping us care for the canal in Aylesbury and pop out once a month to help keep the waterways looking in tip top condition. The group carry out a variety of tasks including removing plastic and other rubbish dropped along the canal, clearing vegetation and weeding, as well as painting and maintaining the locks to keep them in good working order.
