Acton Bridge emergency repairs

Emergency repairs to the deck of Acton Bridge are scheduled to take place this weekend to enable the bridge to reopen to two lane road traffic early next week.

One lane of the bridge, which carries the A49 over the River Weaver, has been closed since last Friday (December 5) after potential issues with the structure were identified by Cheshire West & Chester Council during routine maintenance works.

The Canal & River Trust, which cares for the 82-year-old bridge, will begin strengthening repairs to the bridge deck this weekend. Once this is complete, Cheshire West & Chester Council will resurface the affected sections on Monday.

Weather permitting, this will allow both lanes of the bridge to be opened by Tuesday (December 16). In the meantime, the road will continue to operate as one lane only, controlled by temporary traffic lights.
