Towing vessels consultation

Over the last few years there have been various incidents where towed vessels caused damage, not only canal structures such as bridges, but to the other boats and craft that use our waterway.

Because of this we have introduced the following documents to check the standard of towing and make sure all vessels being towed are safe, insured and manned by a competent crew.

Towage plan

Vessels towed through Sharpness Docks and along both the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal and River Severn Navigation need to have the tow approved. To assess the method of tow, we've prepared towage requirements document and application.

Emergency towage requirements

We appreciate that sometimes it's necessary to tow a vessel in an emergency. Therefore, we've also prepared emergency towage requirements and its application for pre-approval.

This application will enable operators to be approved to carry out emergency tow activities on our waterways.

Consultation

Both the documents are open to public consultation and we would appreciate your feedback. Please provide your comments by 5.00pm Monday 3 December 2018.
