Volunteers are integral to the success of the Forging Ahead project and are involved in various activities that contribute to the preservation and future development of this historic site. Whether you’re passionate about history, community engagement or learning new skills, there’s a role for everyone at Ellesmere Yard.

Get involved:

  • Heritage tours and engagement: Volunteers lead guided tours of the Yard, sharing the history and importance of its buildings, forge and dry dock. These tours offer an intimate look at a working canal yard that has played a crucial role in Ellesmere's industrial history.
  • Event support: Assist in organising and running events at the Yard, including open days, educational programs and community activities. Volunteers play a key role in welcoming visitors and ensuring the success of these events.
  • Conservation and maintenance: Help with conservation work around the site, contributing to the care and preservation of its historic structures. Volunteers may assist with maintaining the grounds, working on ecological enhancements or even hands-on repair work.

Volunteering at Ellesmere Yard not only allows you to be a part of this historic transformation but also offers the chance to gain valuable skills, meet like-minded people and contribute to the future of Ellesmere's heritage.
