Many thanks for your comment and suggestions. We appreciate everyone’s concerns and the need to keep, as much as we can, through routes open during the winter. We've tried to find the best options for the Llangollen, Shropshire Union, Middlewich Branch and Trent & Mersey Canals as a whole, and the many stakeholders who will be affected by closures in this area. This has to be balanced with working out the best programme for our construction teams, including the logistics of moving plant, equipment and materials from site to site, as well as the amount of time available (pre or post Christmas) to carry out the repairs needed at each location. Following this first phase of consultation we have made some changes to the programme, including reducing the length of the closures on the Shropshire Union and deferring two stoppages on the Trent & Mersey Canal. We hope this will help the planning of your winter routes.

We operate a fuel supply boat in this area & the timing of this stoppage will have a significant effect on my business. Would it be possible to alter the timing of this stoppage to coincide with other stoppages on this through T&M route, to Jan -Mar ‘21 as jobs 17476 & 17477 ideally swapping the timing with job 17588 Lock 4 Audlem so that this was done Nov – Dec ’20? This would allow a north to south through route on the northern T&M pre-Christmas & on the Shroppie post-Christmas.
