Anderton Boat Lift Summer Operating Times 2023

Passage on the Anderton Boat Lift from Monday 1 May is now available to book via your online account. Alternatively, you can call and book with our team by calling 0303 0404040.

From Monday 1 May until Wednesday 1 November, the Lift will be operating 7 days a week:

  • 9.15am till 4.30pm

Please note, we will be carrying out weekly routine inspections on the Lift every Thursday until 12 noon.

The lift will be closed to facilitate routine inspections and hydraulic tests on the first Thursday of each month, this will affect the following dates during the summer season, 4 May, 1 June, 6 July, 3 August, 7 September & 5 October.

All passages must be booked in advance, we will not be able to take bookings onsite.

Next available slot on the day is free of charge, however this passage is subject to availability, otherwise, charges of passage do apply.

It is important that all boats travelling through the Lift have the correct license, a valid Boat Safety Certificate and insurance. Please make sure your details are up to date prior to booking as these will be checked during the booking sequence.

Please ensure that you arrive at the holding area 30 minutes before the scheduled passage.

This window gives our staff an opportunity to visually check the boat for any potential issues, and more importantly, allows time for the safety briefing to be delivered and to answer any questions that might arise.

You will be charged the full amount should you fail to turn up for your booked passage. Failing to turn up has an adverse impact on the efficiency of the Lift and our limited operational staff.

The Weaver, is in essence, a big canal, and so rarely has strong flows or floods. Our information page 'Water Levels and Strong Stream Warnings' will update you on this, and you may want to check this if you are unsure before you travel.

We are pleased to have Anderton Boat Lift back open again to boats, and it’s been great to see our customers using the magnificent structure once again. The initial testing period which started last week has allowed our teams to review any teething problems encountered due to the lift being closed for many months.

However, we have experienced a delay in receiving some necessary parts for the second caisson. Furthermore, we have also carried out onsite modifications as the lift doesn’t align completely square with the aqueduct, which has taken us a little bit longer to bring both caissons into operation whilst working around the current operating schedule.

As a result, we need to operate the lift on the reduced passage schedule for a further week longer than originally planned, this is to allow our teams to resolve issues identified during the initial testing period.

Please be advised we will now be releasing the full passage schedule for May 1 onwards online on Monday April 24.
