The towpath at Schoolhouse Bridge has now reopened. The new bridge is complete but some landscaping is ongoing, therefore please approach with caution and follow marked routes and any guidance given by the volunteers.

The new Schoolhouse Bridge is complete but general reinstatement, landscaping and planting are ongoing, therefore the towpath diversion will remain in place until April 30th 2024. The towpath is closed from approx. 100m either side of Schoolhouse Bridge and the diversion route is via a temporary path through the neighbouring fields.

The new Schoolhouse Bridge is nearing completion and is expected to open to traffic in December. General reinstatement, landscaping and planting will continue in the New Year and the towpath diversion will remain in place until March 31st 2024. The towpath is closed from approx. 100m either side of Schoolhouse Bridge and the diversion route is via a temporary path through the neighbouring fields.

Description

Montgomery Waterway Restoration Trust will be carrying out works to replace Schoolhouse Bridge as part of the scheme to restore the Montgomery Canal. The existing bridge will be demolished and a new bridge constructed at the same location.

The towpath will be closed from approx. 100m either side of Schoolhouse Bridge and the diversion route will be via temporary paths through the neighbouring fields. The roadway over Schoolhouse Bridge will also be closed with a diversion via a temporary trackway.

Please approach with caution and comply with any contractor's signs and instructions.

Please be advised this is a non-navigable section of canal.
