The towpath at Swarkestone is now fully open.We will need to come back in the Spring to lay the gravel chipping top surface which may require a further closure. We will update the website nearer the time to inform if this is the case. Thank you for your patience.

Unfortunately we have had to extend this towpath closure until 15th January.

We were hoping to complete the tarmac ahead of schedule, before Christmas and open the towpath, however due to the freezing weather, and as the tarmac quarry was running restricted hours, that's not been possible and the work will take a little longer to complete.

The towpath will therefore remain closed over Christmas with the contractors returning to site on 3rd January to complete the tarmac and then return to do the chip layer in April.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

There's been a slight reschedule to this work and the towpath has now been closed from 10th October.

Hopefully this won't cause too much inconvenience, if it does, we apologise and thank you for your patience whilst we improve the towpaths in the area.

Description

To ensure the safety of the public and our contractors, the towpath between Bridge 14, Swarkestone and Bridge 11A on the Trent & Mersey canal will be closed. This is for improvement works starting on 17th October for 10 weeks.

The visitor moorings east of Bridge 14, Swarkestone will also be closed for the duration of these works.
