Updates

14/09/2022 08:48

We are pleased to advise the water levels have recovered and navigation has resumed along the Glasson Branch.

09/09/2022 11:54

Despite some recent rainfall, water levels within the Glasson Basin and Branch remain low and navigation will remain closed along the Glasson Branch.

Further rainfall is forecasted over the coming week, and we are hopeful this will help to replenish the water levels along the Lancaster Canal.

An update will be provided Friday 16 September.

06/09/2022 12:07

Please be advised navigation remains closed on the Glasson Branch due to low water levels. Despite rainfall forecasted over the weekend period, we have not experienced the sustained rainfall of which we were hoping for to help replenish the levels across the Lancaster Canal.

To help save water, we have cancelled all passages on the Ribble Link this week and 2 upcoming passages next week. Our North West Customer Support Team have contacted all those affected.

A further update will be provided Friday 9 September.

26/08/2022 11:20

Please be advised navigation will resume on the Glasson Branch from 2pm today, Friday 26 August, till and inclusive of Monday 29 August. Due to the low water levels within the Glasson Basin, we will then close navigation along the lock flight from Tuesday 30 August.

Our teams will continue to monitor the water levels, however it is expected to take a further 2 weeks for the water levels to recover. An update will be provided Tuesday 6 September.

Description

Our team have been working hard to move water down the Lancaster Canal to keep navigation open on the Glasson Flight, however, due to the continued strain on water resources, we will be closing the Glasson lock flight tomorrow, Thursday 18 August.

This, coupled with the scheduled break in Ribble Link passages, will help the water levels recuperate along the canal and allow navigation to resume on the flight before the upcoming Bank Holiday Weekend.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.

A further update will be provided by Friday 26 August, or sooner if water levels recover before anticipated.
