We would like to advise our customers that an extension is required to this stoppage. The extension means that this stoppage will now end on 24/02/2023. We have completed our grouting works. However, there is a need to carry out some repointing work using lime mortar. There is extensive leakage coming into the lock chamber via the lock gates. The lock chamber is currently filling faster than the time it takes for the lime mortar to cure. Another factor is the recent temperatures have been too cold for the lime mortar to cure.
Operational staff have visited site to attempt to reduce the leakage but have been unsuccessful. We now need to dewater the pound to carry out this work which will also include fish rescue. We will take the opportunity to try and address the gate leakage with the canal is dewatered.
As the navigation is currently closed due to the ongoing works at Bridge 37, Hazelhurst, this extension will cause no additional disruption to navigation and mitigates the need for an additional stoppage at a later date.
