Description
As part of the development of the Island Quarter, contractors Land & Water will be installing a capping beam to the new offside waterway wall which will support the new step-free access and associated pavilion building on the offside of the canal.
This will involve the installation of a temporary dam ("Portadam") in the channel adjacent to the wall, restricting the water space available for boats to turn this sharp corner on the canal.
Buoys or booms will be deployed to mark the width of the navigable channel during the works.
Please slow down on approach to the turn. Manoeuvring space will be extremely limited during the works making this bend potentially difficult to navigate.
Banksmen/women will be present during the works to direct traffic and implement a one-way working system if required. Please approach with caution and be prepared to wait if requested.
The use of the "strapping bollard" on the towpath side may be advisable to assist boats in making the turn.
