Updates

Our teams have been back onsite at Lock 23 West on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal following consent to work behind the dams which were put in place yesterday. On inspection, we found an issue with the paddle which affected operation of the lock. Our teams have now replaced the paddle, in addition to repairs to a broken stop plank which sits on the canal bed.

The dams will be removed tomorrow morning, with navigation to resume by 2pm, Saturday 5 June.

To help manage the surrounding water levels, we politely request all customers to allow the levels to recover before navigating and ensure paddles are fully closed once they have passed through.

The dams are being installed today at Lock 23 West on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and will need to be left overnight to ensure they are safe to work behind.

Once the dams have been approved to work behind, it is our intention for our teams to be onsite tomorrow to fully inspect the lock and start on a repair.

An update on progress will be provided tomorrow, Friday 4 June.

Our teams are speaking with our contractors to arrange installation of the dams at Lock 23 West on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal to enable our teams to fully inspect the lock.

We are hopeful the dams will be in place early next week.

A further update will be provided by Thursday 3 June.

Description

Please be advised navigation is closed at Lock 23 West on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal due to a suspected obstruction to the gate paddle.

Our team have been to site, however we were unable to remove the apparent obstruction. Dams are now required to allow our teams to be able to fully inspect the lock.

An update on progress made will be provided tomorrow, Friday 28 May.
